Neptune Group

1st Year

Units 1 & 2

  • Personal Hygiene – How to take care of your body. Washing hands, toileting, showering, blowing nose and ladies care.
  • Personal Safety – Getting lost, asking for help and learning about stranger danger.

Units 3 & 4

  • Independent Living – Skills for being independent in the home from making your own bed, sorting washing, tidying your bedroom to meal planning, cleaning budgeting and using appliances.
  • Cooking – Learning a range of skills through cooking, including meal planning (time, money), budgeting, eating healthily, hygiene and shopping. Students will learn to make a selection of meals for independence at home.

Units 5 & 6

  • Community – visiting shops/cafes/doctors/parks and role playing different situations and what to take, what to ask. Preparing for a trip and dressing appropriately.
  • Preparing for residential - getting ready for camp; what are the rules? Where are we going? Timetable, packing. Independent living revisited.

2nd Year

Units 1 & 2

  • Behaviour – Meeting and greeting. What belongs to you? Rules and the law. Behaviour at school/home/in the community.
  • First Aid – Basic first aid – how to care for a burn, cut, sting. Who to seek help from. What to do in an emergency. When to call the police. How to use plasters, antiseptic creams etc.

Units 3 & 4

  • Independent Living – Skills for being independent in the home from making your own bed, sorting washing, tidying your bedroom to meal planning, cleaning budgeting and using appliances.
  • Cooking – Learning a range of skills through cooking, including meal planning (time, money), budgeting, eating healthily, hygiene and shopping. Students will learn to make a selection of meals for independence at home.

Units 5 & 6

  • The world of work – personal strengths and weaknesses. Exploring a range of different jobs, skills and qualifications required for different jobs.
  • Preparing for residential - getting ready for camp; what are the rules? Where are we going? Timetable, packing. Independent living revisited.
