Girls Club

Girls Club provides a welcoming and safe space for girls to enjoy female grooming activities, develop and form social relationships with peers, and participate in music-based activities. The session is run by two specialist speech and language therapists, meaning that the students are exposed to appropriate language and social skills.

Students with a wide range of academic, language and social abilities attend Girls Club and it provides a comfortable setting for students to practise language skills that they have learned in individual therapy sessions and in the classroom. In particular, children learning assistive and augmentative devices are able to practise their skills in a friendly and warm environment.

The session is semi-structured and commences with a circle time and tea party where students learn to interact politely and respectfully with one another. A different topic is chosen each week and may include giving compliments to one another, what makes a good friend, and/or sharing interests.

To end the session, the students engage in a discussion and make a compromise to choose a single or selection of activities such as nail painting, hair styling, singing and/or dancing which always proves to be a lot of fun! These activities allow for the students to practise any skills or ideas we have discussed in the circle time.
