TATE Modern and AND

Ms. Codd writes -

Hi Everyone

Yesterday, I installed artwork by Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune at Tate Modern in Switch House, Floor 5 of the Blatvatnik Building for AND Inclusive @Tate Exchange. And it's looking great!!

This is our second year of showing artwork at Tate Modern with A New Direction.

The collages, paintings and photographs were made in response to construction and collage works by El Anatsui and Romare Bearden in the Objects and Materials galleries, which the three classes visited this term. All the work has been brought together as one large collaborative artwork, about 3.5 x 2m in size.

This Thursday Jupiter and Saturn visited the gallery again to see everyone's work, including their own on display!

You can visit the space to see artworks, take part in activities, hear music, and watch videos by young people from a huge range of SEND schools across London, all of whom, like us, are part of A New Direction's SEND network. The space is open to the public after 2pm each day and on Saturday 17th till 5pm.

During our visit, students saw their own work and took part in a drama workshop, led by Mr Mirza, with lots of students from the other schools joining in.  After lunch we made experimental music in the amazing Wonder Pod with Chas Mollet from WacArts, before energetically exploring and even wearing large cardboard boxes!

Before heading back to school we did some dancing to The Vale School’s band.  It was a great day out.
