Recently the following students represented Parayhouse/London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in the Panathlon West First Round event.
Abdishakuur, Ahmed, Dane, Nathan, Joshua, Sara, and Salma. Davion also stepped in and replaced Ellis. Ellis’s had problems with his transport and sadly arrived too late!
We had great success! All Parayhouse students won medals and helped LBHF win the first round of the competition, with a haul of 66 points out of 77. This was a great performance and achievement and we now look forward to the next round on the 26th March and fingers crossed the final on the 14th June.
Well done!

(Claire was a speech and language therapist from April 04 to Dec 09)

I’m happily settled on Vancouver Island (on the extreme west coast of Canada), making the most of the beaches and forests and mountains and, in particular, Atticus (now four years old).

I’m slowly building up a bit of writing and editing work but miss Parayhouse and all the wonderful students and staff on an almost daily basis.

Looking forward to visiting again in the not-too-distant future…

Life is treating us well. Paul is still enjoying working with his Dad and I’m still loving being full-time mum, weekends seem to be filled with Atti’s social events plus renovating our (still very) dilapidated house. Other than that, not quite sure where the year has gone…

My mum fell just before Christmas (fortunately in the kitchen and not on the golf course or walking in some godforsaken woods somewhere). She had to have her hip pinned and plated but made it back home in time for the holidays. She’s doing brilliantly but that, plus Christmas itself, has made me rather homesick. Currently trying to figure out how to afford another trip to london…

Anyway, would love to hear your news…

Much love

Claire (and Paul and Atticus)

We’d like to wish you all a very happy 2012.

Here are some thoughts from Kerry-Louise in Red Group.

New Year’s Eve-the best year I’ve ever had!

Goodnight Mum! Goodnight family!

Goodnight best mates and friends!

That was the very best year I’ve had. I learned so much.

I learned to take away-though I still hate it!

Now it’s all over and I am tired-and so is my toy dog, Ella.

So kiss me goodnight – the last of this year,

At the end of the Autumn Term, in early December, we had our Investor in People Award 3 year Review which saw the assessor interviewing 13 staff, a parent Governor and the Chair of Trustees, over two days in school. For the last 6 years we have held the standard IiP Award but the structure has altered and organisations can now apply for the standard award, or Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards. We chose to apply for the Bronze Award and are delighted to say we achieved this with some indicators to spare!! To put this in context for you, the London & South East area has 22,432 organisations who have the IiP award, of which only 801 [3.57%] have Bronze – so we are very proud indeed of our school and we will be aiming for Silver in 3 years’ time!!

On Thursday 6th October, Red group performed Macbeth in front of family, staff, friends at the Riverside Studios as part of the Shakespeare for schools festival. We arrived mid afternoon and after watching our friends at Hampton school, we went straight into a full technical and dress rehearsal. This required all of the students to be standing in full costume while lights etc were sorted for nearly 2 hours!

The performance itself was outstanding! Our school received rapturous applause, the loudest of any performance that evening. All of their hard work and hours of rehearsing paid off. The executive director said it was one of the best abridged versions of Macbeth she had seen!

Mr Mirza, Miss Wallace, myself and all staff at PH are so very proud of the students. What an amazing achievement performing independently on a professional stage!

Here are some of our thoughts about our production:

Charlotte: I loved running around being a witch on stage and watching Hampton school.

Deepak: I loved being the King and when Macbeth died. I also really liked the bow at the end.

Judith: It was really exciting and good. My favourite part was being an evil witch, I was a bit nervous though.

Kerry louise: It was amazing! I liked seeing the teachers and my family so proud of us.

Alex: I loved the battle scream and getting lots of claps at the end.

Nasra: I liked when Deepak killed Banquo and screaming ‘Macbeth, Macduff’. It was amazing!

Miss Wallace: My favourite part was leading my crew into the wings and saluting them as soldiers as they went on stage. I saw Dylan standing as Macbeth across the stage- I saluted him, he saluted back! I got goosebumps with pride and excitement.

Mr Mirza: I loved seeing everyone perform on their own looking so magnificent and professional. I’m so proud of them all!

Miss McMahon: I loved seeing us come together like a professional troupe of actors. Watching them all walk on stage gave me goose bumps! To see people standing on their feet applauding at the end made me so proud to be their teacher. ALL HAIL RED GROUP!!

Hello All

I like the idea of the “Where are they now’ section on the website and would like to send you a little piece although I was only there for a short amount of time.

I am living and working in a school i theIshaYogaCenterin Tamil Nadu,South India. The Center is surrounded my mountains if we’re lucky we get to see wild elephants, snakes and all kinds of creatures.

My day is spent teaching English as a second language and coaching football + swimming. As a ‘house parent’ I am looking after 23 boys aged 13-17 who living in a one house with me. It is a residential school with a great holistic approach – we don’t like to call it residential school rather ‘IshaHomeSchool’. (check it out if you’re interested www.ishahomeschool.org )

I haven’t married any Indian village girl yet .We are quite in the countryside – beautiful nature – the only disadvantage is that it is an hours drive to the city to watch a decent football game.

It is slightly different to London here as you can imagine but I love it.

Hope that is enough information.

Please send my regards to everyone that still remembers me.

(Richard was a teacher at Parayhouse twice – once in 2001/2002 and again from 2005 to 2007).

Hello Everyone,

I am still working with Poppy at Travancore School. I am currently the team leader at our adolescent campus which works
with students who are in their recovery of a diagnosed mental illness. On the side burner, I have set up my own business (InclusionMatters)
which is a consultancy for mental health in schools and in the work place. We run workshops in schools to help them have a
better understanding of how to address mental health in themselves and in their students. It has been a busy year!

The family are well and growing up way to quickly with Isobel turning 4 this week and Leopold now 2. I just bought them a big
trampoline with a net around it so Kate and I can chuck them in, do the zip up, and have glass of wine! Everyone’s a winner!

Love to you all!

Rich
