On Monday we welcomed to our staff Laura Tobin [Speech and Language therapist working with Blue and Green Group] and Daniel Cayford [LSA Red Group]. Green Group also welcomed a new student, he is George Stribbling. George is 8yrs old and comes from Wandsworth – welcome George and family!

The London Children’s Ballet

Mr. Clegg-Butt reports…

The outing to see the London Children’s Ballet performance of A Little Princess was extremely enjoyable, (even dodging the showers provided entertainment for some).

The story is about a kind and courageous little girl named Sara, who attends a school run by a mean and nasty headmistress, who sends her to live in the attic and treats her as a slave when Sara’s father is killed in an accident. Fortunately, the situation is made a little easier by some friends that she had made at the school (including a monkey and some rats) and by an Indian servant who transforms the freezing and gloomy attic into warm and beautiful room. Sara’s fortune finally changes, when it is discovered that her father has left her as the sole heir to a diamond mine. Being as kind as she is, Sara forgives the headmistress and school bullies, thus showing that goodness triumphs over mean spiritedness and greed.

The Scottish Play!

Staying on things dramatic and cultural, Red Group has received an amazing invitation! You will remember that we took part in the Shakespeare in Schools project for the first time in October last year, culminating in a performance at the Riverside Studios, Hammersmith.

Their performance certainly impressed all of us but must also have impressed others, as Red Group have been asked to perform with just 2 other schools at a Gala Fundraising Dinner in Buckinghamshire on the evening of Friday 15th June. Congratulations to Red Group, Nicole McMahon and Inam Mirza. [more details nearer the time].

Y11 Leavers

Our Y11 Leavers took one more step towards their Transition from Parayhouse this week, as they attended Ealing, Hammersmith andWestLondonCollegefor their Link Course Induction Day!!

All our Y11 students have this wonderful chance to experience college life, one day a week in the Summer Term, before they actually have to make the move for good. They are accompanied and supported by Peter Cole and Lisa Hilditch, LSAs from Red and Blue Groups, and take a practical Food Preparation course over 10 weeks.

We will get some personal student views on this exciting experience as the course progresses.

Y11 students are also allowed to wear their own clothes to school during the Summer Term, as they will be able to do at college, so they are now very clearly visible to all as our senior students!

[A QUICK REMINDER – Y 11 students do need to wear clothes suitable for sports on either Monday for Red and Wednesday for Blue. Please – and in particular that means trainers and tracksuit bottoms or shorts for all, please!]

EUROPEAN LINKS!

We continue to develop our European links, this time hosting a visit from five Dutch students fromPlantijnHigh SchoolinAntwerpon Wednesday next week.

We strongly believe that welcoming visitors from other countries in to our school enriches our students understanding and experience of other nationalities and cultures.

Many of you will remember our Senior Speech & Language Therapist, Claire Hatcher, who returned to Canada in February 2009 with her husband and young son Attie.

Claire has not been idle during the last few years and has just published her first novel, downloadable from Amazon to read on your Kindle or iPad for a very reasonable £1.95!

As well as hoping as many people as possible will buy her book Claire would also be very grateful for feedback, and there is a review facility on Amazon.

Happy reading!
